Cinquain Poem – Krakatoa

LI: To write a multi verse cinquain poem that describes the journey of a sleeping maunga that erupts

We have been exploring cinquain poems. A conquain poem. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun. We used our poem to show our understanding of volcanoes.

Something I found interesting was that I learnt the different parts of a cinquain poem and I learnt new words by using word hippo.

Significant Figures

LI: To learn how to solve Significant Figures

For maths our task was to create a a Google draw about what a significant figure is. I learnt how to solve significant figures and it was easy but it was hard to explain.  A significant figure is a number that tells us what the accurate number of what something is in a measured way.

I enjoyed this task because I learnt what Sig. Figs.

Lowest Common Multiples

LI: How to find the Lowest Common Multiple

For this task I learnt how to find the lowest common multiples in maths. For Example – for 4 and 8 the lowest multiple of 4 and 8 is 8 because it is the lowest multiple of 4 and 8.

I enjoyed this task because I learnt what lowest common multiples are.

Why Maungarei Sleeps – A Pourquoi Story

Back, far back, in the mists of time when the world was very young, there was a volcano, calm, peaceful, and it was in a deep sl, the Maungarei, the Guardian of the land. One day tourists came ashore on the island, saw the amazing view of Maungarei, they scampered through the forest grounds until they came up upon the mountain.

They climbed up the mountain one by one, they came up upon the top of the Mountain. They danced on top, they sang in joy, but they didn’t know what was coming through. Maungarei has woken from her slumber, she was fuming with anger, raging as her emotions got harder. She fumed with fire, little earthquakes shaking the forest grounds, the tourists starting screaming for help , they started to sprint down the mountain as fast as they could. They’ve breezed into the bottom of the mountain and sprinted as fast as they could, they were safe and sound.

Maungarei was angry, storming with rage, her sibling on the other hand ignored her and ran away from her as she made the earthquake even worse. She was always ignored since she was a middle child.

Maungarei needed to calm down, she was raging with anger, her rage was taking over her emotions even more. Mt Taranaki came to Maungeri, Mt Taranaki was the oldest of the brothers and as he came Maugneri saw him approach her, she exploded and sent a big droplet of lava on Taranaki, it was no effect. The biggest, strongest, Mt Taranaki came to Maungarei, he replied “What’s the problem Maungarei”. Maungarei told Taranaki all about what happened. Mt Taranaki the greatest of all brothers calmed Maungarei down, and Maungarei went back to his deep slumber in the islands of New Zealand.

Volcano Animation

LI: To Understand how a volcano erupts

This week for Inquiry I created a showcase about an animation of a volcano. We did this task in groups and showed how the volcano erupted.

First we watched a YouTube video on how the tectonic plates reacted during an explosion, and how the lava makes it’s way up. The cause of an eruption is like an volcano doing an big burp.

Next we started the animations. The animations showed how the tectonic plates merge together and blow up making the lava its way up.

Lastly I finished my task and blogged about what I did.

Different Types of Volcanoes

LI: To Identify different types of volcanoes and their characteristics

LI: To Understand how volcanoes are formed

This week our task was to create an information poster about the different types of volcanoes, and what a volcano is.  A volcano is a large mountain with a crater, where the lava explodes out of. When a volcano erupts it shoots out lava intensely and destroyed anything in its way.  We learnt about how the different types of volcanoes form and how it explodes in a different way. (Cone/Composite, Dome, Shield, and Caldera)

3 facts about Mount Matavanu

LI: To Analyse and Evaluate the Impact of the Volcanic Eruption on the People and the Cities

This week we were tasked from our teachers to make a google video about facts 3 about Mount Matavanu.

First we were given a google doc about living on a lava flow. We skimmed and scanned through the story .

Then in separate groups we answered the following questions using information from the text and commenting on the questions to answer them.

Lastly we made a google video for three facts about Mount Matavanu and recorded our voices on a script to make the final project.
