Samoan Language Week Phrases

Last week was Samoan Language week and for Samoan Language week our Teacher came up with an interesting challenge for us. The challenge was to create a Google video giving tips on how a new Samoan student surviving in a English class without having any trouble with asking questions. We came up with making phrases so that the English Students and the Teachers know what the new Samoan student is saying.

Moko-Ika-Hiku-Waru

Moko-Ika-Hiku-Waru a Maori Myth, a Taniwha that swimed through the Panmure Basin and the Taniwha that lived under the bridge. Our task was to create an digital image of what we think the Taniwha looked like. For me and my partners digital drawing, we used our creativity to create our Taniwha which had eight tails, and its colour which we think it is blue. This is what my Taniwha looks like.

Pacific Tree Octopus

LI: To not 100% believe everything you see on the internet

For Inquiry our task was to learn about the Pacific Tree Octopus and create a DLO explaining the features of this creature. We used only one website to get our information from, we wrote down its diet, habitat, and some more information about it. After we completed the DLO we found out that the Pacific Tree Octopus was a lie, it was a fake creature and we believed it because of the information we saw on one website, during this task we learnt to not 100% believe what we see on the internet.

Panmure Basin Walk

This week PBS went on a school walk to the Panmure Basin. It was an exciting and fun journey. During the walk we learn about the mangrove tree’s that grow in the water, and the Taniwha, Moko Ika Hiku Waru, that lived under the Bridge at the basin. After we got back from the walk our task was to trace an landscape of the Panmure basin. This was fun and enjoyable to do.

How we Honour the Tiriti O Waitangi

For Inquiry our task was to learn about the treaty of Waitangi and how we honour it. We learnt about the different people who were involved in the treaty like, James Busby, Hone Heke, Tamati Waka Nene, and William Hobson. Then we created a DLO explaining how we honour the treaty of Waitangi and why we honour it.

What were we thinking?

For this weeks inquiry task we were to make a DLO about the Treaty of Waitangi and what they thought and said during signing it. First we added speech and thought bubbles to different characters, we wrote what they expected and what they were thinking have a look at me and my friends DLO to see what we thought they were thinking.

Moment In Time – 9/11

I made a Diorama about a historical time and created an Google video about 9/11 a sad incident that happens in New York. The reason I did this moment is because I was interested to know about what happend and how the hero’s saved many people like Mike Kohoe and the 11 passengers. Making my diorama was fun and it made me think of how to design it.

I enjoyed this task because it was interesting and it was fun. I learnt about what happend and how the hero’s saved the people.

Backpack choices – Museum

On Thursday we had a trip to the Museum to learn about new things, and to look back into what yesterday was like. For the learning part we learnt about how volcanoes erupted, and the type of rocks the eruption formed. Then we had to make an backpack choice where we were living near a volcano and it was about to explode and we had to pack the important stuff we needed before we evacuate and they gave us thirty seconds to fill our bags up. Our group packed some essentials we needed and left some we needed and other groups packed everything even the useless stuff, the teachers checked the bags and corrected our mistakes it was funny.

I enjoyed learning about new things and also I enjoyed touching the type of rocks especially obsidian for the first time.

Mary Annings

LI: To create a DLO that tells Mary Annings story from her perspective story.

Before we take part in our own dinosaur dig LS2 were challenged to capture the story behind Mary Anning, a pioneering fossil hunter and paleontologist during the early 19th century

Something I learnt from this task was that Mary Annings first fossil was a rare dinosaur and she found it at the age of 12 with her brother.
