Mood, Atmosphere, and Characterization

LI: To understand the Mood, Atmosphere, and Characterization in the story.

For reading our task was to create a DLO explaining what Mood, Atmosphere, and Characterization is. We learnt the meanings of these so we can understand the characters and the mood or vibe of the story. We learnt about what the Protagonist and Antogonist and what the round and flat characters were as well. This was was interesting because I learnt new words and the meaning of them.

Building Our Hope

After reading Diary of Anne Frank and The Boy in Stripe Pajamas, we talked about how people must have felt like having their whole world turned upside down. I can’t imagine what if felt like having to move away from your home to a horrible place with soldiers forcing you to do jobs and having no choice but to do them, it was just so sad. Yesterday we discussed how we could put their cloth of dreams back together again. Our task was to collaborate together and we drew on the clothe of dreams what we thought symbolized freedom, hope, whanau, and dreams. We had no rules and we use our creativity to draw what we thought the four words symbolized.

-This activity was inspired by the book Teaspoon of Light.

Boy In Stripe Pajamas

LI: To synthesise your understanding of a text by using varied sentence structures to communicate character, mood, and abstract ideas.

For reading we read a Book about the Boy In the Stripe Pajamas. The Book is about a little boy named Bruno and how his life was after he moved to Auschwitz/Out-With, and his new best friend Shmuel. Our task was to summarize each chapter in 10 sentences using Google Gem to help us with it. After we completed all chapters we generated AI images based on each chapter and put everything on a slide. I enjoyed reading this story because it was interesting and it was very sad about how Bruno and Shmuel’s adventure came to a end.

Contrast

LI: To use AI to create an image that shows the contrast between events or characters.

For reading our task was to create an AI image of a contrast between Bruno and Shmuel from ‘The Boy in Stripe Pajamas’. Contrast means the opposite of or the difference between two things.

My image that I generated with using AI, shows what the contrast is in their life like they’re Background, Environment, Personality, and Looks.

The Lady who said Kia Ora

We read about Dame Naida Glavish, a wahine toia who choice to greet callers with “Kia Ora” instead of “Hello.” Her one action led to a massive change in New Zealand’s cultural identity.

We think Dame Naida Glavish was an agent of change because she stood up for her rights to say Kia Ora when calling people. Which is changing.

Johnny Pohe and the great Escape

For reading we were learning about Johnny Pohe and his great escape. Johnny Pohe was a pilot that taught people and fought in wars, one day he got caught and was sent to prison camp in Germany. Him and other people that were caught in the prison made up a play to make three tunnels Tom, Dick and Harry. Dick and Tom were exploded and abandoned and Harry was the last standing one, they waited for a moonless night to escape. Once that came they went for the opening and went into the tunnels, due to a delay only 200 people were supposed to make it out but only seventy six escaped, and three escaped safely. For this task we made the pros and cons of being an escape or staying inside the prison.

1891 – Shearers Strike

LI: To understand the story within the poem

LI: to understand both sides of an perspective

For this activty, we were set on a task. A task that was easy and hard at the same time. In our reading groups, We read a story about Shearers Strike, ( Waltzing Matilda ) After we answered all the questions, We got to make our own opinion based of what we read, We made a perspective A perspective B and our own Opinion. As reading this story, it was pretty sad, because it says workers were not getting enough, for the job, they were getting paid not enough money to feed there familys, So some workers quit, and they told other workers to stop working, and they stopped. Butt they had to go back to work, because they didn’t have much money to feed there family.

I enjoyed this task because the story was interesting and it was interesting to learn about what happend in the shearers strike.

Hone Tuwhare

This week for reading we learn about an old man who was famous for his poems that he wrote and we made a Google video with us saying his poems and we used AI to generate the images to match the poem. After that we created a mood board on that poem and the poem I did was rain.

Malala Yousafzai Once said…

For reading we learnt about how Malala Yousafzai protested for the rights of girls to educate. She was a sixteen year old girl who said a huge and powerful speech to the world on why girls should educate, she had been stopped by the Taliban by getting shot on her head, but that didn’t stop her from delivering that woman should be educated and boys and girls should be equal. I created this poster of her quotes, and one of her quotes were “One child, one teacher, and one pen can change the world.”
