1891 – Shearers Strike

LI: To understand the story within the poem

LI: to understand both sides of an perspective

For this activty, we were set on a task. A task that was easy and hard at the same time. In our reading groups, We read a story about Shearers Strike, ( Waltzing Matilda ) After we answered all the questions, We got to make our own opinion based of what we read, We made a perspective A perspective B and our own Opinion. As reading this story, it was pretty sad, because it says workers were not getting enough, for the job, they were getting paid not enough money to feed there familys, So some workers quit, and they told other workers to stop working, and they stopped. Butt they had to go back to work, because they didn’t have much money to feed there family.

I enjoyed this task because the story was interesting and it was interesting to learn about what happend in the shearers strike.

Hone Tuwhare

This week for reading we learn about an old man who was famous for his poems that he wrote and we made a Google video with us saying his poems and we used AI to generate the images to match the poem. After that we created a mood board on that poem and the poem I did was rain.

Malala Yousafzai Once said…

For reading we learnt about how Malala Yousafzai protested for the rights of girls to educate. She was a sixteen year old girl who said a huge and powerful speech to the world on why girls should educate, she had been stopped by the Taliban by getting shot on her head, but that didn’t stop her from delivering that woman should be educated and boys and girls should be equal. I created this poster of her quotes, and one of her quotes were “One child, one teacher, and one pen can change the world.”

‘Shameful stain on NZ history’: Polynesian Panthers push for dawn raids apology

LI: To evaluate (form an opinion) the text and respond to the provocation

We read the text ‘Shameful stain on NZ history’: Polynesian Panthers push for dawn raids apology and were given the provocation – Should the Government of today(2021) apologise for the dawn raids of yesterday (1970s)? to explore and discuss in our groups.

To show our thinking we created a DLO that reflected both sides of this provocation and your opinion.

Something I found interesting about this text was every single person has a different opinion, and back In the days things weren’t good they were horrible because of racism.

RISE UP: The Story of the Dawn Raids and the Polynesian Panthers

LI: To evaluate (form an opinion) the text and respond to the provocation

We read the text RISE UP: The Story of the Dawn Raids and the Polynesian Panthers and asked to create a DLO that explores and discusses both perspectives of this historical event in our groups.

Something I found interesting about this text was I learnt how the Polynesian Panthers fought for their rights and gave us what we have today which is freedom from many disasters that happened yesterday.

Different Types of Volcanoes

LI: To Identify different types of volcanoes and their characteristics

LI: To Understand how volcanoes are formed

This week our task was to create an information poster about the different types of volcanoes, and what a volcano is.  A volcano is a large mountain with a crater, where the lava explodes out of. When a volcano erupts it shoots out lava intensely and destroyed anything in its way.  We learnt about how the different types of volcanoes form and how it explodes in a different way. (Cone/Composite, Dome, Shield, and Caldera)

Diary of WW1

LI: To recount a historical story from the past through fictional eyes of someone who was there

We have been looking at the events that took place at ANZAC Cove on 25 April 1915, during WW1. Many ANZAC soldiers got wounded or died during the war. We went through some videos showing what life was like in the trenches and read Hami grace’s diary to help us write diary entries in ww1. We used video recordings to record our diary entries.

I enjoyed using this as it allowed me to picture what it was like in the past and how it was like in the trenches.

Something I found interesting about this was that, I learnt what happened during ww1 and how the soldiers reflected their recounts in their diary.

Dot to Dot Connections: The Kuaka

LI: To draw the lines between the words to show how the connections you have made.

Our task was to make connections with the Kuaka bird using word’s that match its context. We made connections to the words and write different things about the Kuaka bird, like its habitat, diet, appearance, and other things. I enjoyed this task because I learnt new things about the Kuaka bird and it was fun to do as well.
