Subtraction Algorithm

This week our main focus in maths was subtraction using algorithms, so we could get a deeper understanding of it. To do subtraction algorithm it is harder to understand but once you get the hang of it is flawless. Have  a look at the DLO me and my group made to help people get a better and deeper understanding!

What were we thinking?

For this weeks inquiry task we were to make a DLO about the Treaty of Waitangi and what they thought and said during signing it. First we added speech and thought bubbles to different characters, we wrote what they expected and what they were thinking have a look at me and my friends DLO to see what we thought they were thinking.

Tech

We had our first tech session for 2026, we got split into groups of four being, year 8 A year 8 B Year 7 A Year 7 B I was put into year 8 A and was assigned to the sewing group where we were to make a tote bag, first of all we recapped the health and safety rules and how to use a sewing machine. After that we got to our sewing machines and were given papers to trace the out lines of shapes, like a house and a sunflower. Once done we packed up and went back to school.

Agent Of Change

This year we made a Vision board and learnt what it takes to be a agent of change. As a year 8 our vision board is about the goals we accomplish throughout this year. The Things I added to my vision board is my goals I wanna accomplish, my culture, my religion and my Hobby’s. Also improving on my subjects I most struggle on and get on higher levels making me more confident to do things.

SLJ – Mosha’s Speical Leg

For this activity we needed to design a unique prosthetic leg for Mosha.  A elephant that stood on a landmine losing one of her legs, she was only 7 months old when this happened, people thought she wouldn’t make it but other people came together to create her a new leg.

SLJ Step it up – Legs Tally

For this activity we needed to research facts about centipedes after making a copy of the Google Draw and answering the questions provided, asnwering questions like “The Māori names for centipedes are” and “Where in Aotearoa are centipedes found?” where very interesting to answer making me think and research alot.

Facts:

  •  They use their front legs as fangs to paralyze prey like insects, and some large species can even take down small vertebrates.
  • They can regrow lost legs, helping them escape predators.
    • They eat insects, spiders, worms, and sometimes larger prey like bats or mice.

SLJ Kick Start – Legs Tally

For the Summer Learning Journey our task was to research about centipides and for our kick start activity we answered questions about centipedes and some math questions.

A fact about centipedes is that centipedes have many legs and some have up to 100.

Another fact about centipedes is that centipedes legs can regenerate so if one falls of they can regrow another one.
