Backpack choices – Museum

On Thursday we had a trip to the Museum to learn about new things, and to look back into what yesterday was like. For the learning part we learnt about how volcanoes erupted, and the type of rocks the eruption formed. Then we had to make an backpack choice where we were living near a volcano and it was about to explode and we had to pack the important stuff we needed before we evacuate and they gave us thirty seconds to fill our bags up. Our group packed some essentials we needed and left some we needed and other groups packed everything even the useless stuff, the teachers checked the bags and corrected our mistakes it was funny.

I enjoyed learning about new things and also I enjoyed touching the type of rocks especially obsidian for the first time.

Mary Annings

LI: To create a DLO that tells Mary Annings story from her perspective story.

Before we take part in our own dinosaur dig LS2 were challenged to capture the story behind Mary Anning, a pioneering fossil hunter and paleontologist during the early 19th century

Something I learnt from this task was that Mary Annings first fossil was a rare dinosaur and she found it at the age of 12 with her brother.

Fossils and Trace fossils

Way back in the days, there were dinosaurs in the world, and they all went extinct due to a meteor shower. Now there are people who are called Palaeontologists and what they do is study fossils and see how history was in the dinosaur age. We created a DLO explaining what a fossil is and the two types of fossils, which are Body Fossil and Trace fossil. A Trace Fossil is a Trace the dinosaur left behind for example,  Footprints, nests, and feeding traces. A Body Fossil is a preserved part of an dinosaurs body like, head, legs, arms, claws, jaw, etc.

I enjoyed learning about dinosaurs and fossils and it was also interesting as well.

Palaeontologists

LI: To understand what a Palaeontologist is and what they do

For inquiry we learnt on a topic about Palaeontologists. A Palaeontologist is a person who study’s and looks for fossils that are buried in mountains, rocks, and the ground. We wrote a 50 word summary on palaeontologists and it was hard to get rid of words that we needed and find words that fit in to make sense.

Cinquain Poem – Krakatoa

LI: To write a multi verse cinquain poem that describes the journey of a sleeping maunga that erupts

We have been exploring cinquain poems. A conquain poem. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun. We used our poem to show our understanding of volcanoes.

Something I found interesting was that I learnt the different parts of a cinquain poem and I learnt new words by using word hippo.

Significant Figures

LI: To learn how to solve Significant Figures

For maths our task was to create a a Google draw about what a significant figure is. I learnt how to solve significant figures and it was easy but it was hard to explain.  A significant figure is a number that tells us what the accurate number of what something is in a measured way.

I enjoyed this task because I learnt what Sig. Figs.

Lowest Common Multiples

LI: How to find the Lowest Common Multiple

For this task I learnt how to find the lowest common multiples in maths. For Example – for 4 and 8 the lowest multiple of 4 and 8 is 8 because it is the lowest multiple of 4 and 8.

I enjoyed this task because I learnt what lowest common multiples are.
